Are there any “Hollywood media” movies about witches/pagans but NOT presented in a “Hollywood stereotype” way?
What are some good movies made by mainstream media Hollywood that portray witches/wiccans/pagans in general in our REAL light…as in, NOT “pointy hat, green face, mean to everyone, sparklies coming out of the finger, superpowers, evil, etc.”
Not a documentary sort per se…just a mainstream Hollywood type movie with a storyline centred around or even semi-centred around witches/wiccans/pagans in general…TRUTHfully.
What are some good movies like this?
(p.s. If you’re any sort of pessimist and are just looking to say “There aren’t any” or “most of them are correct look at your bible” etc etc…please don’t bother.)
Thanks. (=
Well yes, The Craft is pretty good throughout, but think of the ending…
they bring snake plagues and fly and the girl ends up in a mental ward…this basically undoes a lot of the good the rest of the movie sets in place.
I mean like modern day people, not archaic stuff most “in the box” thinkers would think is a faerie tale.
The Mists of Avalon is a great movie like that. It centers around the story of King Arthur. The main character is Morgaine, his sister. She goes to be a priestess at Avalon at a very young age. They do magic and have rituals (like the Rights at Beltane). Needless to say, this movie has a lot to do with religion, since Arthur wishes to unite the Christians and the Celts though his sister Morgaine wishes to save their pagan way of life. The Pagans do not want to unite with Christians because then Avalon will be lost within the mists if this happens, if more people are converted to the Christian religion. This movie was made into a made for TV movie after the book. The book is excellent and I adore the movie also. It’s the best movie I’ve seen on King Arthur that has stayed closely true to Malory’s Le Morte D’ Arthur. I hope you give this one a try. It sounds like something you are looking for.
